Traumatic Environments
Environments that arise from biohazardous events such as suicides, murders or homicides, crime or trauma scenes, and accidents produce medical waste. Our fully-compliant trauma scene decontamination technicians are experienced in remediation and will respond with the sensitivity and capability needed to resolve the issues inherent to environments affected by medical waste.
Crime and Trauma Scene Biohazard Remediation
Statistically, residents of the United States are more likely to be exposed to crime through media coverage or through personal contact discussion. There are those that unfortunately are directly affected by crime and trauma events.
According to the FBI Supplementary Homicide Reports from 1976 to 2005, homicides are most often committed with guns. And the gun most used in a homicide is a handgun. Teens and young adults victimized by homicide are more likely to have a gun involved than homicides of persons in other age groups.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics’ (BJS) mission is to collect, analyze, publish, and disseminate information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government. A series of statistics from the BJS that is very disturbing are those associated with weapon use in violent crime.
In 2005, 24% of violent crime incidents had a weapon present. Also in 2005, violent crime offenders had or used a weapon in 48% of all robberies, 22% of all aggravated assaults, and 7% of all rapes and sexual assaults. In the same year, 72% of homicides in Georgia were committed by a gun. Out of the 564 homicides in Georgia in 2005, the remaining 28% were committed with a knife or other weapon.
In Alabama, homicides committed with a gun accounted for 68% of the total. Only 7% of the 374 homicides in Alabama were committed with a knife compared to Georgia’s 13% during 2005.
Tennessee had similar percentages in the 432 homicides in 2005. With 71% of homicides committed with a gun in Tennessee, the remaining 29% of homicides in 2005 had statistical similarities to those committed in Georgia.
Urban areas such as Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, and Chattanooga in these states held the majority of these crime scenes with suburban and rural areas holding lower victimization rates.
